Staff Identify and Mitigate Risks Associated with Errors

Surgery center leaders must prioritize the identification and mitigation of patient safety events including infections, falls, and medication errors. The measure assesses whether surgery centers have taken action across four dimensions:

  1. Awareness, including identifying patient safety risks using retrospective and prospective sources of information
  2. Accountability, including incorporating the identification and mitigation of patient safety risks into performance reviews and compensation
  3. Ability, including dedicating patient safety program budgets to permit investments to support patient safety programs

Reporting Period

  • Latest 12 months prior to Survey submission 

Patients Included in the Measure

  • Outpatients (Patients who are admitted and discharged on the same day)

  • Adults and Children
